Part IV: How Home Laundering Works

The personal way of handling soiled fabrics is what they call home laundering. You have to choose the right detergent for cleaning the garments especially for those delicate clothes such as mens shirts and or their most adorable custom dress shirts and suit. Detergents are chemical compounds composed of wetting agents and emulsifiers. Detergents are also called “Synthetic Detergents” as they are not made from fats and lye from which a hard soap is made of.

The laundry detergents work well on almost all washable fabrics. Some detergents take more amount for each wash as the fillers is more than the degreaser. Just recently, detergent companies are starting to reduce the amount of fillers in their products, which makes the amount a little less for a load of garments. Always check the label on some various additives like bleach. The bleach added may slowlyremove the dyes unless the fabric is colorfast.

Hand washing detergents is used for cleaning fine fabrics which is often effective when cold water is used. But it doesn’t mean that hand washing detergents are milder than the regular laundry products. The properties that you need to look for when using hand washing detergents are those that include for use in cold water.

To test for hand washing detergents or any detergent, dissolve a right amount of detergent in a quart of cold water and allow it to sit for 24 hours. Remove the residue or precipitate that rests at the bottom of the jar or just simply do not put the residue in your laundry as it will stick on the fabrics or you’re husband’s favorite custom made shirts.

Shampoos can also be used for hand washing garments but not those that contain “creme rinse”. If the shampoo cleans your hair and leaves it shiny with no residues, it usually cleans your fabrics too.
